How I made €177 from the Champions League final
And more importantly, you can also make money from big football games.
It was all risk-free and it didn’t matter who won so I could just sit back and enjoy the game.
Let me show you how I did it…
So how did I do it?
This article is not for me to brag about my earnings but rather to show how profitable Matched Betting is and that there are no magic or secret tricks.
Also, you can earn similar amounts from future big football games.
I should mention that all the offers I profited from were Reloads (which are NOT sign-up offers). This shows that you can still make decent money after the initial sign-up offers.
I started by looking into the offers (that I had received via email from bookmakers) and added the most interesting ones to my Matched Betting spread sheet on Friday evening. This gave me a good overview of all the offers available.
At the same time I knew which ones I hadn’t done yet. I started placing bets from around mid-day on the day of the final. This gave me plenty of time to find the best matches, deposit money where needed, and it meant I didn’t have to stress as there was still enough time. Never rush Matched Betting as it can lead to mistakes.
Multiple bookmaker accounts
I have nearly 50 different bookmaker accounts. This may sound like a lot, but it is not difficult to manage once you get a bit of practice. Also, you don’t need to have money in these accounts all the time. If you like, you can withdraw your money and only deposit when needed. In this guide, I will show you exactly how I made €177 from the Champions League final. Click To Tweet
Bookmaker promotional emails
I always allow bookmakers to send me promotional emails. Sometimes you will get offers this way that are not available to everyone. When your bookmaker account is empty you may receive deposit bonus offers. I did receive some deposits offers for the Champions League final.
Enough money in betting exchange account
It is also important to have enough money in your betting exchange account, so you can lay all the bets as and when needed. It is not much fun to run out of money knowing that there are still available offers. I deposited an extra few hundred euros into my Matchbook account just for the final. Once all the bets had settled, I withdrew the money again.
It can be a good idea to spread your bets between different results, e.g. home and away team to win and the draw. This limits your liability and your risk. If you only lay the home team to win and they actually win the game, your betting exchange account will be empty and all the money will be in your bookmaker accounts.
For the wagering requirements of the offers I did, I placed the back bets on Liverpool to win, the draw and under 2.5 goals to spread my liability. Luckily none of those back bets won. Hence, my bookmaker accounts are now empty, and I do not have to complete the wagering requirement for the deposit bonuses.
Free bets etc.
Beside the deposit bonuses, the profit came from free bets and in-play bets and “get a free bet if your first bet loses” offers.
I could have made more money from the Champions League final
The crazy thing is that I could have made more money.I made a mistake which meant I missed a €10 free bet. To qualify for the offer, I had to place a €10 bet before the game. And would then receive a €10 free bet. However, I missed the fact that the German betting tax was deducted from the bet, which meant in reality I had only placed a bet worth €9,50 and thus did not qualify for the free bet. I of course layed off the bet so I only had a small qualifying loss but without getting the free bet. Silly mistake on my part. I missed another €35 of free bets. For some reason, I couldn’t deposit money into two of my bookmaker accounts. I contacted the live chat, but they couldn’t help straight away, so I decided to focus on other offers instead. Will investigate what went wrong at a later stage. I didn’t take the full deposit bonus amounts. An example is a deposit offer where I could get a 50% deposit bonus up to €50. To get the full bonus, I would have had to deposit €100. Instead I decided to deposit €50 and get a €25 bonus. I did that because it was then easier to bet the full amount. Also, I wouldn’t have a large amount of money in my bookmaker account if the back bet won. Also, I did underlay to ensure I wouldn’t have a qualifying loss if the back bet won. I didn’t do any trigger bets. Some bookmakers offered what in Matched Betting we call trigger bet offers. These are offers where a trigger needs to happen before you get e.g. a free bet. One of these trigger bet offers was one where you could get a 25% profit bonus if your bet won and Ronaldo or Salah scored a goal and 50% if they both scored. Lastly, there was one bookmaker I had to place a qualifying bet with on a market that I couldn’t lay off with Matchbook. I bet €10 on Real Madrid to win and Ronaldo to score. I then received a €10 free bet, which, of course I layed off as normal. However, the qualifying bet didn’t win. So my qualifying loss was €10 and I only made around €7 from the free bet.
I hope you found this article interesting and it gave you some ideas on how you can also make a lot of risk-free money from big football games like the Champions League final or big matches in tournaments like the World Cup.
